Welcome to my blog!

Wendy's affection for beautiful imagery began with a teenage obsession with fashion magazines. In fact, a good portion of her allowance was dedicated to keeping up with her subscriptions to Vogue, Elle, Glamour, and Harper's Bazaar. On a summer trip to San Diego, she packed an entire suitcase full of her beloved fashion magazines instead of necessities like a swimsuit and hat. When Carrie Bradshaw of Sex in the City fame said " ...I used to buy Vogue instead of dinner. I just felt it fed me more." - Wendy could relate.

Wendy dreamed of becoming a part of the fashion world - perhaps as a designer, a model, or a photographer. But being a small town girl (and only 5 foot 3) without a trust fund, she knew her chances were slim. So she left her fashion magazines behind and joined her peers in pursuit of a college education.

After graduating from Arizona State University with a BS degree in Supply Chain Management, Wendy and her long-time beau, Destry, moved to Sacramento where she began her professional career with a big name IT firm. Shortly after settling in a new home, Wendy and Destry decided it was time to get married. Hiring a photographer to document their wedding reignited Wendy's passion for beautiful imagery.

"I first gained an interest in photographing weddings when planning my own wedding. I was inspired by the modern, fashion forward style of my wedding photographer and I knew that was what I wanted to do."

Wendy has invested over four years of study to photography both in the classroom and the field. Her peers and mentors often described her as having a natural talent and a wonderful creative eye. She continues to expand her knowledge by attending tradeshows, workshops, and seminars taught by world-renowned wedding photographers. Since beginning her studies, she has documented over 100 wedding celebrations.

"I work closely with my clients to document the uniqueness of their wedding day. I am truly inspired by the details and work to meld the human and environmental elements. I believe my clients value and trust my creative perspective and, for that reason, can relax and enjoy their day."

Sacramento Kids Photographer: Davis Turns One

Saturday was awesome. I got to spend time with little Davis and his mom and dad… And watch him eat cake. His first cake. Ever. It is so amazing to witness and document important events in peoples lives. I feel truly lucky. Here are my favorites from Davis’s One Year session.

Aren’t Jessica and Keith adorable? And with genes like that it’s no wonder Davis is so adorable too. Shout out to Jessica for pointing out the “1″ sign while we were shooting. This girl has an amazing eye for style and design.

I imagine Davis practicing singing runs on American Idol in this next photo. And of course Randy Jackson would totally say “Dog! That was hot!”.

I adore this photo of Jessica and Keith having fun with Davis. He just laughed and laughed.

But it’s inevitable in every one year session… just as there are smiles and laughter, there are also some tears. Hey, that’s a part of growing up!

On to the fun stuff! C-A-K-E!!! I loved how Jessica brought balloons to the session. And check out this awesome cake she made!

Sacramento Wedding Photographer: Dawn Ranch Lodge Wedding

It’s about two months away from my first wedding of 2012, so I thought I’d blog about some of the amazing opportunities I have to work with other talented photographers. On this occasion I got to work with one of my dearest friends: Fiona Sarn. This particular wedding was one of my favorites of the year. It took place at Dawn Ranch just outside the town of Guerneville, CA. The property has rows and rows of adorable little white cabins along with a variety of apple trees. The couple infused so much of their personal style into their wedding: live blue grass music, signature drinks, amazing cajun inspired food, and crazy, good love. It was one of the most unique and fun events I’ve ever had the honor to photograph. Here are some of my favorites of the day.

Seriously cute shoes. They fit the brides unique, fun style perfectly.

I loved the loose, wild flower style of the flowers. They looked relaxed and effortless. Perfectly suited for this wedding.

Getting ready.

The first time the father of the bride saw his little girl. I love this image!

Aren’t these the cutest bridesmaids gowns ever? I love the color and style. Relaxed yet elegant.

Guys being guys: totally irreverent and rambunctious just minutes before the ceremony.

I love the grooms reaction to seeing his bride walking towards him.

A few details.

When assisting another photographer, it’s my job to get great candid expressions from another point of view during the portrait session. Love these.

Always my favorite part of the day, the toasts. Capturing emotional, candid moments like this is what I live for!!

The bride’s dad’s toast was so heartfelt. I had a hard time holding back the tears.

The groom surprised the bride by serenading her with the blue grass band, Hot Buttered Rum. Everyone was blown away! Especially the bride.

Thanks again to Fiona for inviting me to help document one of the most beautiful, unique, and FUN weddings ever. It was an experience I won’t soon forget.

Sacramento Wedding Photographer: Destination Wedding in Miami, FL

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve blogged. Not for a lack of something to blog, but that cozy, “hibernation-mode” that photographers go into after their November weddings has settled upon me. But enough of that. It’s time.

I wanted to start off this years blog post with the last wedding I photographed in 2011. This couple is very near and dear to my heart. My sweet cousin Autumn married her Anthony in a gorgeous, lush Florida location in November. Autumn was the epitome of a DYI bride. She worked tirelessly on her fantastic details and even the location itself. Autumn is a professional landscape designer, Anthony is a professional farmer. It seemed fitting that they would choose an orchid farm as a setting for their big day. And it was gorgeous! Here are some of my favorite images from the day.

I adored Autumn’s gown… It was truly perfect for her. She purchased it from David’s Bridal.

Getting ready. Those are actually my toes in the shot.

My last three weddings of the year, all three brides wore the same style shoes! What a crazy coincidence! Autumn had hers dyed plum to match her wedding colors. They really are great shoes.

Because Autumn and Anthony were getting married at sunset, they wisely chose to do a “First Look”. For couples whose ceremony start times will leave them with no natural light for post ceremony portraits, this is the best option. Great light, great expressions… it’s just a win/win.

After their “First Look”, we had time in the amazing light to take some great, natural portraits.

On to the ceremony… This little guy was hilarious. Everyone was trying to coax him down the isle. A total ham.

My grandma… my own grandma was an “Uncle Bob”. Not really. She was awesome. I want to be just like her when I grow up. I love this picture of her.

Sacramento Wedding Photographer: Folsom Engagement Session

I’ve said it before and I’m gonna to say it again: I have the absolute best clients! I feel so fortunate to find amazing, talented couples in love who love my work. It is truly the best feeling! A couple of weekends ago I got to photograph Alan and Chelsea’s engagement session in Downtown Folsom. They were absolutely adorable! Cuter than cute. See for yourself! Sacramento Wedding Photographer: Apple Hill Engagement Session

Giving back is important to me. And it is important to the ladies of the Active 20-30 Club of Great Sacramento #1032. Every year they host two amazing and super fun fundraiser events: Crab Feed and Monte Carlo Night. The proceeds from these events goes to local charities benefiting many children in the greater Sacramento area. For the past two years I’ve donated an engagement session (valued at $300) to their annual Monte Carlo Night silent auction. This year, Jenn and Erick were the winners!!!

Jenn and Erick are runners and they love to go running in the Apple Hill area. They really want their session in Apple Hill so I chose Larsen Apple Barn as the background for their session. Here are a few of my favorites from the session.
